Dinner before a night out one Friday was spent in Henry’s Place by Good Earth. The restaurant is the brainchild of Henry Cheung, HK chef behind great Chinese dishes.
We were served these complimentary fried dumplings as we waited for our orders. When taken together, the very crunchy dumplings and the accompanying sweet sauce were just divine. We really enjoyed this.
We had originally ordered Chinese Brocolli (Php130) but was served Kangkong in shrimp paste instead. We didn’t bother raise the error because (1) we were starving, and (2) we wanted our server to discover the booboo himself. Come to think of it, I was actually pretty shocked they served us the wrong dish when we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time (so we had their full attention). Also, our server carefully took note of our orders before coordinating with the kitchen, so what could have happened? Tsk, tsk. But anyway, on the bright side, buti nalang the kangkong was delicious with the rice.
Our favorite dish of the night: Orange Chicken (Php495). The serving was just right for 2-3. I especially liked the crunch each bite left, and the tangy sauce that went very well with the rice. Zero problems with this dish; it was excellent!
We paired everything with a helping of Good Earth Rice (Php280). Everything about this dish seemed to work to our favor, but there was just one little problem: it was (AGAIN) not what we had ordered! We originally wanted to try their Yang Chow Fried Rice. Again, buti nalang masarap yung rice.
So after eating, of course, we asked for the bill. The bill reflected our original orders: Broccoli, Orange Chicken, and Yang Chow Fried Rice. But the waiters were all “ho-hum” about it — perhaps they were praying to the heavens that we wouldn’t notice? But thing is, we did! In what universe would kangkong and broccoli ever look alike? Service aside, the food was great, so I might still come back for more of Henry’s. I just hope they pay better attention to customers’ orders next time.
