Check out this week’s top 10!
1. Sweet Bella Cafe’s Midnight Hazelnut Crunch
I finally got to try other desserts in Sweet Bella Cafe (read about the macarons here): Petite Trio, Ensaymada, and my new favorite, Midnight Hazel Crunch (Php130). I loved everything about this sinfully chocolate-y treat: the sweet chocolate shell toppings, the extremely creamy cake, and the crunchy, nutty base. It’s very much like a Ferrero Rocher chocolate ball, just in cake form. Two thumbs up!
Sweet Bella is located in Burgos Circle, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, and in Greenbelt 5, Makati City.
2. Mozu Cafe’s Frozen Brazo de Mercedes
It was love at first bite for me and Mozu Cafe’s bestseller, Frozen Brazo de Mercedes (Php140). Mozu’s take on the traditional dessert is worth noting because you see, theirs is ice cream-based, but is still able to incorporate distinctly brazo elements like the sweet, fluffy surface and the creamy, gooey yema center.
Mozu Cafe is located in The Sapphire Residences, 31st St. cor. 2nd Ave., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
3. Espressamente Illy’s Tiramisu
Another dessert that I’d surely come back to: Espressamente Illy’s Tiramisu (Php200+). This dish was one big party: creamy, slightly sour dollops, bitter cocoa powder, sweet base. A great take on the classic Italian dessert.
Espressamente Illy is located on the second floor of Shangri-La Plaza Mall (where Haagen Dazs used to be), Mandaluyong City.
4. Mary Grace Cafe’s Valencia Hot Chocolate
I have found myself a replacement for Starbucks’ Orange Mocha (speaking of, why did they discontinue that drink???): Mary Grace Cafe’s Valencia Hot Chocolate (Php104). If you are like me who thinks the orange+chocolate/ mocha combo is a match made in heaven, then this drink is for you. =)
Mary Grace is located in Serendra, TriNoma, and Greenbelt 2.
5. Mr. Kurosawa’s Happy Birthday Noodles
I had Mr. Kurosawa’s Happy Birthday Noodles (Php280) for dinner with friends one day. Big serving and heavily packed with tons of meat and veggies. The noodles were really sweet, too!
Mr. Kurosawa is located on the ground floor of Eastwood City Mall, Libis, Quezon City.
6. Colour Mix’s Miss Kiss Lip Balm
This Miss Kiss Lip Care balm from Colour Mix had only cost me HK$13.5 but it’s able to instantly moisturize my chapped lips. (And it keeps them that way for a long time, too.) What I don’t like about this lip balm though is its smell. I thought camomile with honey would smell great, but not Miss Kiss, no.
Colour Mix can be found on Nathan Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
7. Pitch Perfect
I finally got to watch Pitch Perfect this weekend! I liked it, but I didn’t love it. Great mash-ups (Titanium has been stuck in my head for days, argh), but very predictable story line. So I’m wondering why this film received rave reviews when it could very much pass off as a High School Musical spin-off…
8. Golden Globes 2013
And on Monday, I got to catch the replay of the Golden Globe Awards, yay! This year, my picks for best speeches are Anne Hathaway’s (click here) and Jessica Chastain’s (click here), who won for their work in Les Miserables and Zero Dark Thirty, respectively. Aren’t they both so gorgeous?
9. The Vaccines’ Come of Age
I’ve been listening to English indie rock band The Vaccines’ second record since late last year. I just can’t get enough of them. My favorite off of Come of Age is No Hope (watch the video here). If you are into bands like Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, and The Kooks, you’re bound to love The Vaccines, too.
10. The Alabang Housewives
Stumbled upon news of an upcoming TV5 show yesterday: The Real Housewives of Alabang, a franchise of the Real Housewives reality TV series. Pictured here are Pam and Vanessa, the stars of this show. So much hate on Facebook for these two (hahaha)… but who knows, maybe their show could be worth our time? Haha nah. Who am I kidding? Watch the show’s teaser here.
Photos for items 7 to 10 were taken from the Internet.
I’ve decided to start a few new series on Sandiestar in hopes of motivating myself to work extra hard on this blog. So on Wednesdays I’ll be doing Midweek Mini Reviews in which I will be sharing a bit about stuff I’ve eaten, watched, listened to, etc, throughout the week. Stay tuned for another series on Sandiestar tomorrow!
