Check out this week’s top 10!
1. The Strokes’ One Way Trigger
Last Friday, The Strokes released their new single, One Way Trigger. I must admit: the song takes getting used to. It’s not the typical Strokes sound I’ve come to love all these years, but there are elements in there that are distinctly their own. I hate the bits of this song when Julian’s voice gets screechy against the Take on Me-inspired beat. Sigh. But then again, it’s a Strokes song, so it’s bound to grow on you eventually.
2. Up Dharma Down’s Turn It Well
Now here’s a song I could listen to over and over again. Admittedly, I’m not too big on OPM (I don’t wanna explain myself for fear of attracting haters hahaha). But some songs I like, including this one. It doesn’t sound at all like the band’s previous work and I (+ almost everyone else) very much welcome the fresh sound.
3. MAC Rebel
Got a new MAC lipstick for Christmas (thank you, Tin!), and it happens to be my new favorite: Rebel. I’ve been wearing it all week!
At first sight, the tube could pass off as a plum shade. But when applied, the color surprises with every coat. One coat and you get a Barbie pink. Two coats and you get a subtle magenta. Three coats and you get a blinding hot pink.
Here’s two coats on me. Rebel is creamy, really shiny on the lips, too, even without a gloss. If you want a matte finish, here’s what I do: apply a nice lip balm (let it stay a while), apply two coats of Rebel, then gently wipe off “excess” color with a tissue. And you get an “I just took a sip of strawberry juice!” look.
The only thing I don’t like about this lipstick is that it dries my lips bigtime when I forget to apply a base. Best to put on a lip moisturizer before applying Rebel. Other than that, Rebel is a great addition to anyone’s makeup kit!
Here’s another look at my lips. Kainis noh?
4. Stella Wood-Fired Bistro
I went back to Stella last week and here’s what I had: Wood Fired Garlic Mushroom Cream Fettuccine (top right), Butcher’s Best pizza (bottom right), and a Crispy Pork Belly Salad (bottom left). I went back for the pasta because I loved it so much the first time around, but this time, it was just so dry and bland! The pizza was good, if not a little too burnt on the sides. The best dish for the night though was the Crispy Pork Belly salad. The mix leaves a refreshing taste in your mouth, so it’s a good start to a meal, it being able to cleanse the palate and all.
Oh Stella, why didn’t you give me complimentary bread with yummy tomato and olive oil dip this time?
Stella is located in Bonifacio High Street Central, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
5. Honestly WTF
Sharing with you a blog I’ve been checking out for some time now, Honestly WTF. It has everything from crafts to beauty reviews to travelogues to home decor ideas. So many informative and inspiring articles in there. Honestly, go visit it now.
6. Solen Heussaff is Esquire Philippines’ Sexiest Woman Alive
So Solen Heussaff was picked sexiest woman alive. Please join me as I feel bad for myself. =) Hahahaha!! And I will have to agree with one of the comments on this video: she just had to put on a shirt so she could take it off. She just had to.
7. Oh My Vogue Blog
Another blog discovery courtesy of my colleage, Shamee! Oh My Vouge is the brainchild of a lady named Henar who’s based in Spain. I especially like how she’s able to interpret and reinvent very feminine pieces. She looks so classy! This is my favorite look of hers for the week.
8. OPI 2013 Nail Polish Collections
I have been drooling over several of OPI’s new collections: Selena Gomez Collection, the Modern Family Collection, and the Euro Centrale Collection. I want them all please! Click on the links to learn more about each collection.
9. SAG Awards 2013
I was planning on selecting my favorite SAG Awards gown, but I just couldn’t pick a favorite. Not because there are many to choose from, but because I thought this year’s lineup was kind of uninspired. Too many silk gowns done in the same silhouettes, some ill-fitting, some downright wrong. So I picked my favorite beauty look instead and went with Jessica Chastain’s barely-there makeup and soft waves.
I love how she looks so understated yet elegant, almost as if she so effortlessly prepared for the red carpet.
10. American Idol 2013
The only show I have been religiously following for years now is back with a new season. I’m not too psyched about the new panel of judges, not over the moon about the contestants either. But if I had to pick an audition that I enjoyed thus far, I would go with this 15-year-old who got to sing with Keith Urban for a few seconds. I like the raspy voice, the song choice, and the look. I don’t get why Randy Jackson had to go all high and mighty towards the end…
That’s it for this week!
