Aracama’s been around for some time now but it was only quite recently when I discovered its double purpose: it’s a chic, homey Filipino restaurant during the early hours of the day, then it turns into a tugs-tugs-tugs club at night.
I literally gawked when I first stepped foot into the dimly lit club with blaring dance music — it seemed like a totally different place! (But come to think of it, they do have a bar and a DJ booth set up…so.) Anyway, this entry will be about my dining experience in Aracama, which is to say, my time in the place when it was fairly early into the evening.
(In case you were wondering, yes, Aracama has occupied Embassy’s former space.)
Here are some random things I took photos of as I waited for the food. I like how the place is spacious and elegant all around. It’s definitely one of the more upscale places to get Filipino food in The Fort. They have function rooms available for when you want to gather your friends and family for some good Pinoy grub.
(Surprisingly though, the food wasn’t as expensive as expected.) Here’s their Gising Gising (Php195) – huge serving; may be good for 2-3. This might just be my second favorite Gising Gising ever, next to Recipes’ take on the Filipino dish.
I really liked their Chicken Honey BBQ (Php350), too, which came with a tiny side salad. This was (not surprisingly) very sweet, so it was a good contrast to the spicy vegetables.
Both were super awesome with their KKK (Php130) rice. (“KKK” stands for “Kalkag Kalo Kalo”.) Don’t be fooled by the yellowish color as this didn’t taste at all like steaming rice smothered with Star Margarine. The menu was true to its word: this was a fun mix of dried baby shrimps, garlic, and green onions.
Aracama’s desserts are to die for so you must save room for them!
First up is their Mais con Yelo (Php120) -- shaved ice with creamed corn, milk, corn ice cream, and corn flakes. Aracama’s was really sweet and milky.
But my favorite is their Chocnut Ice Cream (Php120). I died!!! That’s all there is to say about this.
