It wasn’t difficult trying to convince my parents to check out MAPLE this past weekend when my selling point was that the all-day breakfast restaurant is owned by the Pancake House Group. And since we are big fans of Pancake House and their other brands, food tripping at MAPLE was a sure go.
MAPLE is the group’s premier offering. In fact, their flagship store is proof of this: it’s located on the second floor of the San Antonio Plaza in Dasmarinas Village, Makati. Need I say more?
MAPLE’s San Antonio store easily gets packed during breakfast (8 to 9-ish in the morning). Seating capacity is limited so best to come by early to secure good seats. As for us, we had no choice but to play the waiting game. While a 30-minute wait would normally tick us off, we decided to stick it out with MAPLE anyway since the servers were very courteous and accommodating — it was easy to keep our cool ;) That, and, well, there are a lot of things to see/do in the San Antonio arcade anyway.
I love MAPLE’s attention to detail, from the story-book themed menu, to the citrus-infused water, to the specialty placemats. These little things were big check marks on the dining experience.
A portion of the restaurant is lined with what else — maple syrup, of course! :)
Scroll down to see what we had for breakfast that day.
Mine: Gourmet Champorado (Php220). Chocolate rice porridge topped with a gourmet tuyo fillet, served with your choice of evaporated or condensed milk. I’m a sucker for champorado, so this was an obvious choice. While I’ve only very recently learned to appreciate taking it with tuyo (dried herring), this discovery is something I’d definitely hold on to for a long time. :) Anyway, MAPLE’s take on the champorado was just all right… I would give it a 3/5. It would’ve fared better had the consistency been less watery, and the rice a bit more sticky.
Mom’s: Huevos Rancheros (Php340). A classic Mexican breakfast made with tortillas, refried beans, grilled chicken and a sunny-side up egg, topped with cheese and ranchero sauce. First off, let me just say that serving size is HUGE so it might be a good idea to split this with a companion. As for its taste — this dish is a party in your mouth. It’s packed with so much flavor. If you are a big fan of Mexican cuisine, you’re sure to enjoy this one.
Dad’s: Eggs Benedict (Php315). A MAPLE signature topped with Canadian bacon, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce served with crunchy country fries. Best-seller alert! We loved the texture of the bread (similar to a croissant) against the sweet strips of bacon and the powerful kick of the Hollandaise sauce. The fries, meanwhile, were a welcome touch to the monotony of the eggs, bacon and bread combo. You must try!
All in all a good first visit to MAPLE. We left with happy tummies!
